Symptom(s)

Customers report seeing a small amount of moisture inside the ventilation tube at the rear of the cabinet or on the back panel. The moisture can appear even when the washer seems to be operating normally.

Possible Cause(s)

The condition can develop for several reasons. Non HE detergent or incorrect detergent amounts can leave residue that contributes to moisture issues. Skipping regular Clean Washer cycles allows buildup to form. The ventilation tube may not be seated correctly at the tub connection. The original vent port design on these models can also let moisture collect when the deflector is missing.

Diagnostic Procedure

Use this sequence to confirm the issue on affected units.

  1. Check the model and serial number to verify it falls within the ranges listed in the Model(s) Included section.
  2. Look at the rear of the washer for moisture inside the ventilation tube or on the back panel area.
  3. Ask the customer about the detergent they use and how they measure it. Confirm they are using only HE detergent in the correct amounts for each load.
  4. Find out if the customer runs the Clean Washer with affresh cycle on a regular schedule and whether they use an affresh tablet or regular non thickened chlorine bleach.
  5. Inspect the ventilation tube where it connects to the tub. Make sure the tube is fully seated properly routed and free of kinks or loose spots.
  6. Check whether the vent port deflector part W11036940 is already installed at the tub vent port. If the deflector is absent move to the repair steps.

Recommended Repair

Complete these corrections to stop the moisture from collecting.

  • Instruct the customer to use only HE detergent and to measure it according to the load size instructions in the use and care guide.
  • Tell the customer to run the Clean Washer with affresh cycle regularly.
    • They should use one affresh tablet or the correct amount of regular non thickened chlorine bleach during the cycle.
  • Make sure the ventilation tube is properly connected to the tub vent port with no gaps or improper routing.
  • Order part number W11036940 and install the vent port deflector between the ventilation tube and the tub.
    • The deflector directs air flow and stops moisture from pooling in the vent area.
