Using Too Much Detergent – Maytag 27” Front Load Washer

Manufacturer(s)

  • Maytag

Appliance Type(s)

  • 27 inch front load washer

Model(s) Included

  • MHW8630HC0
  • MHW8630HW0
  • MHW8630HC1
  • MHW8630HW1

Serial number range: C848XXXXX to C9435XXXXX

Symptom(s)

The customer may report that the washer is using too much detergent. When HE detergents with a concentration higher than 2X are used, excess suds, poor cleaning performance, or incomplete rinsing can occur. The machine may display a 5D suds detection indicator or an F0E2 oversuds error code.

Possible Cause(s)

  • Customer is not using HE detergent.
  • Pressure hose is damaged, pinched, kinked, plugged, or leaking air.
  • The appliance control unit is dispensing an incorrect detergent dose for the concentration level selected by the user.

Diagnostic Procedure

  • Confirm the detergent in use is a true HE formula and that the concentration setting matches the product being used.
  • Visually and manually inspect the entire pressure hose run for any restriction, kink, pinch point, blockage, or air leak.
  • If the detergent type and pressure hose check out clean, the control is the remaining likely source of the incorrect dosing.

Recommended Repair

  • Instruct the customer to use only HE detergent and to select the matching concentration setting.
  • Correct any pressure hose condition found during inspection so the hose is free of pinches, kinks, plugs, and air leaks.
  • If the hose is good and the detergent is correct, replace the ACU. Obtain the exact ACU part number from the current repair parts list for the model and follow the service manual for access and replacement steps.
