Symptom(s)
- F6E4 error code displayed on the control panel
- Tech sheet description: “User Interface / Appliance Manager state status mismatch”
- Triggered by cooling fan problems:
- Low fan speed – underspeed or overspeed
- High fan speed – underspeed or overspeed
Possible Cause(s)
The primary cause is a cooling fan speed issue (underspeed or overspeed) that creates a communication mismatch between the User Interface (HMI) and the Appliance Manager.
Secondary possibilities (only after fan is confirmed good):
- Wiring or connection problems between HMI and Appliance Manager
- Faulty HMI (User Interface)
Critical Note: Do not replace the HMI before checking the cooling fan.
Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING – Electrical Shock Hazard Disconnect power before servicing. Replace all parts and panels before operating. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.
- Obtain and review Tech Sheet W11284426 for the specific model.
- Check the Cooling Fan FIRST (Mandatory Step)
- Locate the cooling fan (usually upper or rear area of the wall oven).
- Inspect for obstructions, damaged blades, or debris.
- Verify proper voltage supply to the fan motor.
- Confirm the fan is running at the correct speed (neither underspeed nor overspeed). Use tachometer, diagnostic mode, or observe operation if safe.
- Test motor windings and bearings as outlined in the tech sheet.
- If Cooling Fan Passes All Tests
- Inspect all wiring harnesses and connectors between the HMI and Appliance Manager.
- Enter Service Mode (per tech sheet W11284426) and check for persistent state status mismatch codes.
- Test HMI functionality and communication.
- Document findings and any stored error codes before proceeding to repair.
Recommended Repair
Repair Order (Strictly Follow This Sequence):
- Cooling Fan Faulty? → Replace the cooling fan assembly with the correct OEM part for the model. Re-test fan speed after installation.
- Cooling Fan Good but F6E4 Still Present? → Replace the HMI (User Interface) only after the fan has been verified good. Program or calibrate the new HMI if required by the tech sheet.
Never replace the HMI first — this is the most common and costly mistake on these units.
After repair:
- Clear any stored codes
- Reassemble the oven completely
- Restore power and run a full test cycle to confirm the F6E4 error is gone
