Affected serial numbers: M920 through MX18

Symptom(s)

Control board resets to factory default settings and will not retain customer or site-specific programming. The problem may appear only when both the upper and lower dryers are running at the same time or after a power interruption.

Possible Cause(s)

An abnormal power surge occurs when both dryers operate simultaneously. The same reset can also be triggered by a complete power outage. In either case the control loses its programmed settings and returns to the factory defaults.

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Confirm the dryer is within the listed model family and serial range M920–MX18.
  2. Ask the site whether both units were running together or whether a power outage occurred before the complaint.
  3. Attempt to reprogram the control away from the default settings.
  4. If the control accepts and retains new settings, the unit is not affected or the condition was temporary.
  5. If the control cannot be changed from the default values or immediately reverts, the control board must be replaced.

Recommended Repair

Replace the electronic control with part number W11398779. All current service stock of this part contains the updated software that prevents the reset condition. After installation, reprogram the control to the site requirements and verify both dryers operate normally under simultaneous load.
