If a stiff wire brush is used to clean the frame mesh assembly while applying downward pressure, the brush may push the assembly down onto the infrared burner. This downward pressure can deform or warp the frame mesh assembly creating cold spots on the burner and preventing gas from igniting in those areas. The unburned gas then causes popping and fluttering noises.
