Small Oven Sensor F3E1 – JennAir Commercial Gas Range

JennAir JGRP548HL commercial gas range — small oven sensor F3E1 tech tip

Technicians working JennAir commercial-style gas ranges may see amber flashing lights behind the oven knobs and a small oven that will not heat or that shuts off mid-cycle. This tech tip points to error code F3E1 and a failed small oven sensor on listed models in serial range D909xxxx–D941xxxxx.

Manufacturer(s)

JennAir (Whirlpool Corporation family brand).

Appliance Type(s)

JennAir commercial / professional-style gas ranges with dual oven cavities (large oven + small oven). The failure mode is the small (left) oven temperature sensor.

Model(s) Included

Applies to the models below when the serial number falls in D909xxxx – D941xxxxx. The asterisk covers engineering digits and related suffixes. Confirm model and serial on the rating plate before ordering parts.

JennAir: JGRP548HL*, JGRP548HM*, JGRP648HL*, JGRP648HM*, JGRP748HL*, JGRP748HM*

Symptom(s)

Amber flashing lights behind the oven knobs indicate an error code. The small oven may not work at all, or it may shut off during a bake or other cycle. The large oven may continue to operate while the small cavity faults.

Possible Cause(s)

Failed small oven temperature sensor. Error code F3E1 on these platforms is associated with the small oven sensor circuit. Do not replace unrelated controls or the large-oven sensor until F3E1 is confirmed in the fault display.

Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Record model and serial. Confirm the unit is on the model list and within serial range D909xxxx–D941xxxxx.
  2. Enter the fault code display on the large oven cavity and read stored codes.
    • Small-oven-related codes are shown through the large-oven fault code display, not a separate small-oven UI.
  3. If error code F3E1 is present, the small oven sensor is the primary suspect. Plan to replace it.
  4. If F3E1 is not present, do not use this pointer as the sole reason to replace the small oven sensor. Continue normal diagnosis using tech sheet W11202275A for other failure modes.
  5. Order replacement sensor part W10859573 when F3E1 is confirmed.

Recommended Repair

When F3E1 is present on a covered model/serial, replace the small oven sensor with part W10859573. Clear or recheck fault codes after the repair and verify the small oven completes a heat cycle.

For other codes or intermittent complaints without F3E1, follow tech sheet W11202275A before swapping the sensor.
