Possible Cause(s)

Abrasion or tearing of the bellow that allows water to escape from behind the front panel. Contributing factors can include improper loading practices or installation conditions that allow excessive shaking or vibration.

Diagnostic Procedure

  • Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Inspect the bellow for signs of abrasion such as:
    • scuff marks
    • collection of small grey particles of rubber, or a tear.
  • Pull back the bellow and inspect inside the fold.
  • Check around the entire perimeter of the bellow, focusing on the lower portion between the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions.

Recommended Repair

If the bellow is torn:

  • Remind the customer of proper loading instructions from the Owner’s Manual
    • close zippers
    • fasten hooks
    • tie strings and sashes
    • remove non-washable trim and ornaments.
  • Check the installation and correct as needed to prevent excessive shaking or vibration.
  • Replace the bellow.
  • Replace the ACU (Appliance Control Unit) to improve handling of unbalanced loads.
  • Consult the repair parts list for correct part numbers and the Service Manual for component access and replacement instructions.
